De Manhattan à Brooklyn, du Queens au Bronx, NYC m'a tout simplement coupé la respiration. Il faut le voir pour le comprendre, car sinon ça n'a pas vraiment de sens, alors je vais essayer de décrire mes impressions...

Rester une semaine à New York c'est très différent d'y rester une année, même si j'habite à côté, j'y passe mes weekends et ai eu l'occasion de visiter des dizaines d'endroits merveilleux.

Manhattan, c'est un village démesuré, où les habitants sont un peu cinglés et trop à fond dans leur carrière, sans parler des millions de touristes qui piétinent les rues chaque jour. Il y a énormément de choses à voir et à visiter mais bon, il suffit d'ouvrir un guide pour retrouver les célèbres musées et monuments, les belles vues, les attractions. Je veux plutôt parler du ressenti...

Capitale du monde d'art, de mode, de culture et de mixité, ville où tous les plus grands films sont tournés, la première fois qu'on se retrouve dans le bruit des klaxons, des yellow taxis, d'une foule monstrueuse et incomparable à celle de Paris ou Londres, c'est un peu désarmant.

Regarder dans le ciel et se tordre le cou pour essayer d'apercevoir le toit d'un building, marcher au pas, traverser quand le bonhomme est blanc, voir des Hummer et des limos à chaque coin de rue, se ballader sur la 5ème avenue, manger des bagels et des pizzas...

Aller s'asseoir dans Central Park quand il fait 35 degrés, faire du shopping à SoHo, dépenser $300 en une aprèm, marcher sans se rendre compte que ça fait déjà 4 heures et 80 blocs; c'est un sentiment à la fois incroyable et étouffant.

A chaque fois que je rentre dans New York, mon coeur réagit étrangement et je me dis toujours la même chose : "Waw, cette ville est dingue!"

Brooklyn, c'est immense en superficie, les bâtiments sont bas et on y trouve des quartiers très différents les uns des autres. Du quartier juif au quartier latino, en passant par les gangsta de 2m de haut en total survet casquette assortis, à Williamsburg et ses bobos rock-hippie, il y en a pour tous les goûts! Des minuscules restos, de toutes les cuisines qui puissent exister, des friperies vintage, des vieux hangars désafectés ou encore des garages de réparation un peu louches... Mais Bklyn c'est le calme, la jungle est de l'autre côté du pont et habiter là-bas doit être très agréable, chacun connaît les voisins de son immeuble et les gens sont souriants.

Pour finir, le Queens, où je suis passée rapidement, n'est pas vraiment intéressant car ce sont surtout des quartiers résidentiels qu'on y trouve, assez pauvres et pas esthétiques. Mais si vous aimez le graffiti, c'est incontournable de passer au célèbre 5Pointz, magistral spot de graff où tous les plus grands ont laissé leur signature, il faut même prendre rendez-vous pour poser là-bas! Enfin, des vues dantesques de Manhattan sont accessibles du Queens, et c'est là qu'on se rend compte à quel point cette ville est impressionante et magnifique.

Pour ce qui est du Bronx, je n'y suis malheureusement pas encore allée, j'attends un garde du corps pour aller visiter, je mettrai à jour quand j'aurai plus d'infos. Quoi qu'on en dise, c'est sûr qu'il y a des quartiers où il ne vaut mieux pas traîner, mais il y a aussi plein d'endroits qui ne craignent pas, et c'est même sympa de jeter un coup d'oeil.

Je concluerai comme j'ai commencé, c'est effectivement difficile de décrire cette ville, mais je pense qu'il faut à tout prix la voir ou y vivre une fois dans sa vie... Je ne pensais pas qu'un jour je serai bluffée et impressionnée à ce point.

From Manhattan to Brooklyn, From Queens to Bronx, NYC  simply cut off my breath. You must see it to understand, because otherwise it doesn't really make sense, so I'll try to describe my impressions ...Staying a week in New York is very different than staying one year, even if I live next door, I spend my weekends and I had the opportunity to visit dozens of wonderful places.

Manhattan is a disproportionate village, where people are a bit crazy and too thoroughly in their careers, not to mention millions of tourists who trample the streets every day. There is plenty to see and visit but well, just open a guide to find the famous museums and monuments, beautiful sights, attractions. I would rather talk of the feelings ...

World capital of art, fashion, culture and diversity, the city where all the biggest movies are shot, the first time we find ourselves in the noise of horns, yellow cabs and a monstrous crowd incomparable to the one in Paris or London is a bit disarming.Look in the sky and twist your neck to try to see the roof of a building, marching, crossing when the man is white, see Hummer and limos at every street corner, have a stroll on 5th Avenue, eat bagels and pizza ...

Go sit in Central Park when it's 35 degrees, shop in SoHo, spend $ 300 in an afternoon, walk without realizing that it's been 4 hours and 80 blocks, it's a feeling at once unbelievable and stifling.

Whenever I enter into the Big City, my heart reacts strangely and I always say the same thing to myself: "Wow, this city is crazy!"

Brooklyn is vast area, the buildings are low and the neighborhoods are very different from each other. From the Jewish or Latino Quarter to the 2 meters height gangstas with tracksuit top and matching hat, to Williamsburg and its hype rock-hippies people, there's a place  for everyone! You can eat in tiny restaurants of all cuisines that may exist, shop in vintage clothing stores, old warehouses or shady car repair stores... But Bklyn is quiet, the jungle is on the other side of the bridge and live there must be very pleasant, everyone knows the neighbors of their apartment building and people are smiling.

Finally, Queens, where I went quickly, isn't really interesting because there are mostly residential areas found there, relatively poor and unattractive. But if you like graffiti, you must pass the famous 5Pointz, masterful graff spot where all the greats have left their signature, they should even make an appointment to draw there! Finally, stunning views of Manhattan are available in Queens, and that's when we realize how beautiful and impressive it is.

Regarding the Bronx, I unfortunately haven't been yet, I actually expect a bodyguard to visit, I'll update when I have more info. Whatever anyone says, and it's sure that there are neighborhoods where it's better not to drag in, but there are plenty of safe places, and it's even fun to check on it.

I will conclude as I began, it's indeed difficult to describe this city, but I think you should at some point see or live in NYC once in your life... I didn't know that one day I'll be blown away and impressed that way.
